Owl making

Due to problems Gilbert the fox is being re-made ( because he is to big and looks like a high land cow rather then a fox) so work on my owl has started and he has to be the most fun looking thing I have ever made. I can't help but laugh since his eyes are perfect just at the moment he looks like a fluff ball.

Part one:

I bought a load of foam balls to make a simple shape for him and started to poke feathers into the foam.
Part two:

Started to cover him in more feathers to shape him along with marking out his main features.( test to see how his eyes look when inserted)

Other then that I've made his beak ,painted the eyes and cut down some of his feathers since they are a bit to long.

Gilbert now has a head..

It took a while since forming chicken wire into a head shape is hard with safety gloves on since I scratched my hands making the body and got told off for it by friends..

so he looks like this for now:

He also so far has one ear to work with but the only problem is he is a rather fat fox and not exactly in preportion at the moment since the fur is so thick. He just looks huge but that just makes he look even more fun and silly which is what I want really.

Gilbert Pursby..

For my final piece at university I'm creating a selection of bizarre animals to display at the final exhibition. The first and biggest of the group is Gilbert ( named after the Ikea furniture he is made up of) he is a seat for the audience to sit on when trying on pieces on display ( some of the animals are props and items that can be worn).

so far:

items used
  • Ikea stool
  • Ikea fake fur pillow
  • Fine chicken wire
  • wire
  • stuffing
step one:

I got the chair and made a wire base around it but the body has no head at the moment since I'm cutting the chicken wire with fabric scissors ( silly thing to do really but its all I have at the moment) need some pliers to do the rest or sooner or later I'll have no fingers left.

step two:

Started to stuff the top part of him because he will be sat on and the wire can't keep its form when sat on by its self ( and I want it to be some what nice to sit on) .

step three:
Just to check if the fur looks OK I put it on top of the wire and it looks OK so far, have to get white fur for the belly and some extra fur for the head and legs. First things first I have to form the head and tail ( in order to save on fabric I might use the over hanging fur for the head and another fur for the tail so it matches better ) once the fur is attached I'll air brush it to add some detail to the fur so it looks better.

Other then that its looking good so far the smaller bits will be done once the main body shape is formed and then on to the next animal.

New work

I've decided to draw more, its rare for me to draw any more due to so much university work holding me back and using up most of my insperation. So I've started to draw some simple illustrations which I have poster on my Deviant art page but thought I should post here since not all of my Deviant art work is really that good.
(click images to see in full)

1. Wild ones:

2. girl with on eye:
Both of them are heaverly inspired by Somefields work seen in my previous posts, But I'm really happy that they turned out so well.

personal work..

In my free time I do cosplay costumes ( two a year ) and I have just finished my second one this year, which will be worn at London McM expo at the excel centre. He has to be the biggest costume I have done in a while, and even though he isn't 100% complete ( this is because I can't make the large hands in time and they would make it to hard for me to do anything) he is still the most detailed and I must say it is one my favourite costume so far
(next to the costume I did last October).

just to show what parts are missing here is the reference picture I used for the costume:
Eibon character and soul eater (C) Atsushi Okubo
And here is the costume sitting around till expo:well he is missing his back piece which is not seen in the photo since it takes a while to put on.
Oh and I must say the people on the expo forum are going to be annoyed since it told them I wouldn't post a picture till expo, but you can't see all the costume in the picture and I'm not the one wearing it ( it is actually balancing on a mannequin).

so much work so little time..

Since I've been at uni to much I need to relax a bit,

My work is different each time but I enjoy being inspired by so many brilliant illustrators.

Somefield is one of them, his web site is http://somefield.com/

Since I'm starting my final project I have to collect a large amount of artists related to the project I want to do.
Which is not an easy task for me since it starts to look like a scrap book rather then a coherent and informative project.
my main link to all things fun and interesting has to be thedailywh.at .
its not all art and games but has animation work celeb information and a few jokes, it keeps me from taking work to seriously.
my work is different depending on what i'm doing
One of my lastest sketches is slowly moving towards fantasy work but i'm still doing some modern work as well.
I hope I can learn to draw better in time and to include more of my costume work.

To many usless blogs..

I really need to stop making blogs and forgetting about them.
So I'm merging this with my other blog "new world arts" and I'm going to post my art work and costume work on here from now on.
